“3 Behold, children are a heritage from the LORD, the fruit of the womb a reward. 4 Like arrows in the hand of a warrior are the children of one's youth. 5 Blessed is the man who fills his quiver with them! He shall not be put to shame when he speaks with his enemies in the gate.” Psalm 127:3-5
Children are a heritage, a reward from God Himself. Whether biological or adopted, our children are like arrows in our hands which must be fashioned, protected and ultimately sent out into the world to represent the ways and the worth of God.
For many of us, the absence of biblically faithful parenting in our homes growing up, or the poor application of biblical principles results in us forming a vision of parenting based on what we don’t want “do” or what we don’t want to “be”. As pastors, we want to encourage us to set your sights higher, to develop a biblically informed, Spirit-empowered vision for parenting that will require hard work, but will allow our children to flourish and our families to be lighthouses for Jesus in a world of broken people and broken families!
